The Haitian people continue to suffer in the aftermath of the devastating 7.0 earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010.
The Entrepreneurs Foundation of Central Texas in Austin has established a $600,000 Haiti Relief Fund to match donations from the EF network worldwide. EF Hawai‘i is collecting contributions from the Hawai‘i community for Haiti relief. All donations to the Kokua Haiti Relief Fund will be forwarded to the Austin fund to be matched 1:1, so a donation of $100 to our fund will be matched with $100 from Austin for a total of $200 in aid to the Haitian people. The nonprofit community in Hawai`i would not survive without the support of generous local corporations. But as more large companies in Hawai`i are acquired by out-of-state or foreign entities, their ties to Hawai`i may weaken and their contributions to the community may decrease. Entrepreneurial companies must be encouraged to take their place and renew the pool of corporate volunteers and philanthropists in Hawai`i .
